BREAKING: Power stock up with another big signing

BASKETBALL: On the back of signing Cassie Rochel, Tabatha Richardson-Smith and Kayla Kiriau, Gladstone Port City Power has further strengthened its team.

The club has signed New Zealander Alicia Carline.

The 190cm tall Carline is currently playing in the Spanish domestic competition for Gijon Basket Mar.

But she cannot wait to step foot on Aussie soil.

"I'm really looking forward to getting to Gladstone and putting in the work to help us be successful," Carline said.

"From what coach Ray Cooper has said, it looks to be a really talented and positive group of women, so I'm very excited to meet everyone. "I look to bring another inside presence for the Power."

Cooper hopes Carline will be available for round two or three once her season finishes in Spain.

Carline, who is from Palmerston North, is also known for her blocking abilities. She is averaging three blocks per game to go with her 13 points and 10 rebounds.

"I've played for a few different teams in New Zealand, but spent the majority of my playing career representing Manawatu throughout the age group teams and then for the Manawatu women's team in the NZ Women's Basketball Championships," Carline said.

She moved to America at 18 and played for the Gillette College Pronghorns from 2012-2014.

"I moved on to Portland State University in 2014 and graduated in 2016 and signed with Gijon Basket Mar in September last year and plan on continuing my playing career in Spain after finishing this season with the Power.

"We're currently first in our league and moving into the second phase of the season, so we're in a good position to contend for the national title."

Carline dominated in her most recent game with 10 points, 17 rebounds, five blocks, two steals and two assists to help her team win.

Carline played with Portland State Vikings where she played 18 games in the 2015-16 season.

She played basketball from 2007-10 at Freyberg High School in New Zealand and made a huge impact as a sophomore prior to her stint with Portland State.

There, Carline averaged just over 14 points and 10 rebounds per game with a shooting accuracy of 54%.

She's had double-figure scores 21 times and scored 20-plus points five times, which included a 37 point game.

Carline's on-court achievements were recognised where she was named in the 2014 All-Region team as a sophomore and earned All-Academic at Gillette College.
