Snr Sgt Peachey said police waited for the man to approach the vehicle before arresting him.
"Obviously people were as disgusted as we were, to see a community such as Mt Larcom take such a big hit," he said.
"There was cash (stolen), there were cigarettes, and liquor … it was quite a large amount of money, especially for a small community like that.
"But it's very pleasing that we've brought this matter to a quick resolution."
Sgt Peachey said police were trying to recover the stolen property.
Police said it was "unclear" why Mount Larcom was targeted, but they believe the man, from Yeppoon, was staying at a nearby motel during the break-ins.
