SHOPPERS at Aldi Avoca were shocked when the car smashed through the entry way on Monday around noon.

The witness at the scene said they heard a large crash and turned around to see the nose of a Mitsubishi Lancer in the exit area.

The witness said "it was the first time I've ever seen anything like this. It was a bit of a shock."

The driver, a grandmother, said she went to put her foot on the brake and it slipped off and hit the accelerator and the car punched through a glass panel into the entry way.

The grandmother had her daughter and grandchildren in the car but no one was injured.

The husband of the driver said the front wheels of the Mitsubishi Lancer gripped on the curbing and jumped through the glass wall.

The driver said she was thankful no one was in the exit area.

"They could have been packing their groceries or anything and you never know what could have happened," she said.

It is the second time a car has hit the 11-year-old store.

A car smashed through a brick wall on the northern side of the building a few years ago.
