WE ALL have dreams.
Some of us are lucky enough to have a chance at realising them. Some of us are not so fortunate.
For that reason, when we see someone with the opportunity to fulfil a lifelong aspiration, we should back them.
We should lend them our support and do what we can to help make that dream a reality - and in turn, maybe one day, the gesture will come back to you.
That's how it should work.
Today, we are pleased to report some great support for our budding Olympic boxer Billy Ward.
Businesses, industry and organisations from our community have thrown their weight behind the campaign to get Billy to London.
By anyone's measure, this is a remarkable undertaking.
Sure, the basics might be provided for, he might not have to pay for tickets and such, but here is a kid with a heart as big as the country he will represent and he's up against athletes with some of the biggest and most lucrative sponsorship and endorsement in sporting history.
He has put everything on hold to realise this dream.
It's the pinnacle. It doesn't get much bigger than the Olympics!
The support and generosity shown to Billy, via The Observer just yesterday, was incredible.
Already there are organisations that have come up with the goods. And they should take a collective bow.
Everyone from big industry, small business, our civic leaders and you - our readers - can relate to what Billy is trying to achieve.
Maybe most of us will never go to the Olympics - even as a spectator, let's face it.
But we all know what it is to have a dream.
We know the hard work it takes to realise it. So come on, Gladstone region.
Let's send Billy to London knowing his community is really backing him!
