Boy, 6, drowns while swimming at Mt Morgan's Big Dam

POLICE are investigating the tragic death of a six-year-old boy who drowned at the Mt Morgan No 7 Big Dam yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the dam about 5pm.

A police spokesman said the boy had been swimming with his family when he was found unconscious in the water.

Family members and then ambulance officers performed CPR on the boy.

He was then taken to Mt Morgan Hospital but was unable to be revived.

The RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service had been on standby after flying to a nearby school

The boy is believed to be a Mt Morgan local who attended the primary school there.

It's the second dam accident in a week for the region after a six-year-old girl was badly injured and nearly drowned in a vehicle accident at a Mt Larcom property last weekend.
