Bowlers put tourists on top in one-off Test
OUTSTANDING bowling by Megan Schutt and Ellyse Perry on day two of the sole women's Ashes Test in Canterbury put Australia in the box seat to take the four points on offer for the winning team.
Perry (3-38) made short work of England's top-order, dismissing Lauren Winfield (1) and Sarah Taylor (0) in successive balls in the third over. Schutt then helped restrict the hosts to 168, her haul of 4-26 including the scalps of Laura Marsh and Anya Shrubsole for ducks.
That left England 106 runs behind on the first innings after Australian captain Meg Lanning declared at 9-274 after the dismissal of debutant Jess Jonassen (pictured) for 99.
Meanwhile, the Australian men's team will begin its three-day match against Northampton tonight.
Captain Michael Clarke will be rested ahead of next week's fifth Test at The Oval in what will be his final game for Australia.
