Botanic gardens celebrate 25 years with week of activities

THE Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens turn 25 in October and the region's residents are invited to join in the birthday celebrations.

To mark the occasion six days of activities, from October 1 until 6, will include the creation of an enchanted garden for children, a guided night walk of the gardens, a morning walk with the gardens' curator, and a family movie night and barbecue.

Special guests Costa Georgiadis, from ABC television program Gardening Australia, and Professor Tim Entwisle, Director and Chief Executive of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, will speak at a Family Fun Day at the Gardens on October 6.

The fun day, to be conducted from 9am to 2pm, will feature free face painting, craft activities, a jumping castle, and rides to entertain children, as well as a native plant sale, markets and food stalls.

Gladstone region residents are also invited to help Costa to create a special garden at Tondoon's arboretum at 10am on October 5.

Those wishing to participate are asked to contact the gardens' visitor services officer Heather Congram on 4971 4443 as bookings are essential.
