Here's why you don't joke about bombs at airports
JOKING about carrying a bomb might have seemed funny at the time, but a 26-year-old New Zealander was arrested at Gladstone airport on Sunday and is now facing serious charges.
Gladstone police were called to the airport at 2.40pm by security.
Virgin Airlines staff were unimpressed at the man's answer when asked if he was carrying dangerous goods.
This is the third bomb scare since March 28 last year.
Both the other scares involved police evacuating the airport and using specialist bomb technician officers before the building could be declared safe.
Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey said he didn't know what else police could do to get the message across about silly behaviour.
"All of the warnings are out there to stop people making any declarations like this," he said.
The man is now on bail.
"He was very remorseful and acknowledged his actions were very serious and silly," Snr Sgt Peachey said.
