Boettchers Motors bought a Jeep
ONE of the nation's largest car dealerships has expanded its footprint a little bit further, with the acquisition of Ipswich Jeep.
AP Eagers, which purchased Boettcher Motors in 2014 - keeping the trusted Ipswich name and almost all the existing staff - has taken on a new challenge with the Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Kia dealership across the other side of Brisbane Rd, Bundamba.
Dealer-principal Paul Guidi said his top priority was to restore some pride in the Jeep name.
For those who haven't been following the news, poor old Jeep has copped a flogging through some bad press related to a few so-called "Lemon" Jeep Grand Cherokees and what some have described as less than satisfactory customer service.
Mr Guidi said there was nothing wrong with the brand and that the Grand Cherokee remained the top-selling model in the range.
"From my understanding it's the customer service that needs to be improved upon here," Mr Guidi said.
"That and the level of community involvement - we are already looking to get involved with local clubs and sponsorships, including the up-coming Mopar Sunday at Willowbank Raceway."
Ipswich Jeep was established by the Salters group in late 2012, operating as a Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, and Alfa-Romeo dealer.
Then in 2014, the business was sold to the family operation that also owned the Mercedes dealership at Toowong.
Mr Guidi said Boettcher Motors saw an opportunity about three or four months back when the Jeep and Mercedes dealership owners started looking to get out of the industry.
In taking over the dealership on April 16, Boettcher Motors has kept all-bar-one of the existing 27 staff across the sales, service and administration departments.
"Jeep produces great cars from what we've seen, and Kia has certainly come a long way and it is a great product," Mr Guidi said.
"You get a seven-year warranty on a new Kia and a 10-year warranty on Jeeps.
"A big factor in the success of a dealership comes down to how your service department looks after the customer.
"Usually a problem can be resolved and it is just a lack of communication that causes an issue.
"Any complaints will have to come through me."
