Boat exploded and caught on fire at Mackay Harbour

A BOAT has exploded and caught on fire at the Mackay Harbour overnight.

A police spokesman said the 36-foot boat has been moored at along the East Point Rd end of the Harbour for many years.

Five QFRS crews attended the scene at about 2.30 this morning.

A QFRS spokeswoman said they left the vessel burning as it wasn't a threat to any other property and will be returning to the scene this morning.

Police are currently treating the fire as suspicious.
