SIT down and hang on, the twin-turbo BMW 2 Series Coupe is preparing to touch down.

Forecast to be available in September priced from $64,400, the BMW 228i will be a raucous premium-pocket-rocket.

This little weapon will rip from 0-100kmh in 5.7 seconds courtesy of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which develops 180kW and 350Nm. Average fuel consumption is 6.3 litres for every 100km.

Standard equipment will include Navigation System Business which includes a high-res 16.5cm colour screen, a six-speaker stereo with USB and auxiliary ports, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, climate controlled air con, sports seats, front and rear parking sensors, auto lights and wipers as well as an anti-dazzle interior rear view mirror.

It will also have 60:40 split fold rear seats and numerous storage options.

Along with the 2 Series Coupe entry level models, the BMW 228i Coupe also includes either the "Sport Line" or 'Modern Line' as standard. Both of these standard packages are designed to create a specific character for the car.

This includes 18-inch alloys (styling dependent on Line selected), variable sports steering, bi-xenon headlights with headlight washer system and Dakota leather upholstery as well as BMW high-gloss shadowline or chrome line exterior.

Also included is a full suite of safety features such as dynamic stability control, dynamic braking lights, a full complement of airbags and an active bonnet to improve pedestrian protection.

"The multi-award winning engine used in the 328i and 428i has proved to be the sweet spot in their respective ranges, delivering impressive power with a rorty exhaust note and remarkable efficiency," said Toni Andreevski, general manager of marketing for BMW Group Australia.

"The 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo engine has received critical acclaim from automotive experts, being awarded international engine of the year in its category for the last two years, so naturally we're delighted to add this fantastic power plant to our beautiful 2 Series Coupe body."
