Bizarre trial includes tape recorder and testicle squeezing

A RIFLE, a boxing match, Funniest Home Videos Show, testicle squeezing and a cottage in the scrub have all been mentioned in the first day of an ongoing trial in Maryborough District Court.

The complainant, Anderleigh man Allan Dierens, says his former neighbour and alleged lover Maree French broke into his cottage with two men, threatened him with a rifle and bashed him, in March, 1997.

The defendant, Ms French, stands on trial charged with entering a dwelling with intent to cause an indictable offence and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Ms French's defence barrister Paul Rutledge argues Mr Dierens had been verbally and physically abusive towards his client since he met her on a bus to a battle of the bands competition in 1994.

Yesterday, the court heard Mr Dierens's account of what happened on the night in question.

He said the defendant, her son Arthur and her friend Robert Paul had attacked him in his house after Ms French accused him of chasing her sons away from his property. The court heard the trio kicked, punched and tried to tie up Mr Dierens with a phone cord. It was also alleged that Ms French hit the complainant with the butt of a rifle a number of times.

He said the trio forced him to agree to box Mr Paul.

Mr Dierens said in another confrontation Ms French had grabbed him by his testicles beause he had been naked.

Mr Rutledge questioned the complainant about his past with the defendant. He highlighted a number of occasions where Mr Dierens had allegedly been verbally, physically and sexually abusive towards Ms French, which he denied happened.

Mr Rutledge said when Ms French was living with her children at Rainbow Beach, Mr Dierens had entered the flat while the family was watching 'Funniest Home Video Show'.

"My client asked you what you were doing there, you said 'how could you let your children watch that rubbish?'

The bizarre trial continues today.
