YESTERDAY: A MAN lit a fire in a Sun Valley kitchen yesterday only to put it out before the resident arrived home.

The resident of the Darren St home had ducked out for an hour to find his smoke alarm going off, the smell of smoke and water on the ceiling and floor.

"He lit the blinds from outside the window and then put it out with a hose out the back. Who would do that?" the resident said.

"The kitchen would have gone up if he didn't put it out but I don't know why someone would light a fire and put it out."

When he returned home at around 1.30pm the person was gone.

The resident's dog was the only one home ran down the hall when he entered the house.

"The firies thought I did it until a neighbour showed them a photo of the car left here," he said.
