BITS squares last seasons ledger

BITS avenged last season’s grand final loss and moved to the top of the Gladstone A-grade cricket ladder with a resounding eight-wicket win over reigning premier The Glen.

The Glen won the toss and batted first on a lively green-top, but struggled to make runs against the relentless BITS bowling attack.

The Glen was dominated from the outset, losing wickets regularly. The premier was bowled out for a modest 71 in less than 30 overs.

Peter Shepherd set the tone with a wicket from his second ball of the day en route to an

economical 2-7 from four overs, while new ball partner Wayne Fiechtner also kept the runs down and snared two important top-order scalps.

Sam McKee bowled a steady line and length and was rewarded for his consistency with a wicket, as did Scott Pitt, who got drift and turn.

New recruit Luke O’Shea decimated the tail with 4-7 in just 12 balls to complement his three catches in a stellar performance.

O’Shea picked up the key wicket of The Glen’s top scorer and followed it by bowling two of the bottom four and grabbing a leg before decision.

Despite losing Jon Hayden early for nine, BITS reached the target in just 11 overs and with two wickets down on their inexorable march to victory.

Skipper Josh Singh top-scored with 26 not out, carrying his bat for the second week in a row. He was supported by Terry Sawyer with an unbeaten 15.

BITS’ eight-wicket triumph followed a convincing seven-wicket thumping of Brothers last week, with Singh’s form looking ominous for the other teams in the competition.
