BITS Saints made some inroads from a 2015 grand final disaster to at least challenge reigning premiers Yeppoon Swans in round three of the AFL Capricornia season.

The introduction of returning players for the home side made the Swans jumpy during the first half.

However the overall class and poise of the red and whites proved the difference as it cracked the game open during the third quarter on way to an 11.10 (76) to 5.8 (38) win. Steve Pugh, who played a superb game in the midfield for the Saints, said there were plenty of positives from the young side.

"We absolutely gave ourselves a chance and were in front at half time," Pugh said.

"Yeppoon smashed us in the grand final and we were hurting from that and were pumped up to get some revenge.

"We had a bit of a lapse at the start of the third quarter and ran out of legs in the second half."

With Pugh in everything and ruckman Sam I' Anson dominant around the stoppages and around the ground, BITS Saints looked the goods early in the piece.

However it could not justify its efforts on the scoreboard.

Thomas Cossens began to have an influence as Yeppoon produced its trademark overlapping football against a tiring Saints.

"It was nice to get a full side in and we had Yeppoon shaking in their boots," Pugh said.

"We had nine players in and three who played in the under 16 championships Kane Haua, Jackson Mangion and Jack Grainger were awesome.

"We had five under 17 players and they all had to double up in A grade after playing in the under 17's earlier in the day."

Meanwhile Gladstone Mudcrabs have made it a trifecta of wins against hapless Rockhampton Brothers.

Zac Jahn starred with eight goals in the 21.24 (140) to 6.6 (42) thrashing.

Other best players for Mudcrabs were Sam Scofield, Daniel Clay, Kyle Richardson and Shane Eilola.

Scott Smithwick tried hard for the Brothers.
