A KNOCK of 97 from BITS A-grade cricket captain Dave Webber set up a decisive victory over Yaralla, defeating the premiers by 64 runs.

Playing with only nine men, Yaralla was always going to be stretched to defeat BITS, who were not at full strength themselves.

But the innings from Webber combined with a 62 from Joe Marsh was enough to get BITS to 7-197, which was far too much for Yaralla to chase.

Webber combined early with fellow opener Matt Fawdry to put on an opening stand 58, before Marsh came to the crease and kept the BITS score rolling.

By the time the inning finished, the two major scorers had done the damage and BITS only needed to bowl well to hand the undermanned Yaralla side its first defeat this season.

The only issue for BITS was Webber falling short of his century.

"I would have loved to get there, I like to make runs for the team before runs for myself though," Webber said.

With players on central Queensland representative duties both sides were unsure of their prospects when the match began.

The batting performance from BITS won the day, backed up by a solid job in the field to not to miss any opportunities.

Yaralla had given Webber three lives before he went on to make 97, and the BITS side did not return the favour.

"It was always going to be tough with representative cricket this weekend," Webber said.

"This week we were able to catch everything, which was a problem last week."

Yaralla did a god job early of not giving their opponents any chances Bill Jones and Dylan Cross getting to 52 before Jones found his wicket gone for 11.

Yaralla slowly edged along to get to 3-106, which was where the wheels finally fell off.

The last five wickets were lost for just 27 runs and Yaralla were left stranded at 8-133, handing BITS a comprehensive victory.

The result leaves both sides with a win and a loss for the season, but not much insight as to what future meetings might serve up, with players returning from representative cricket likely to make a difference.
