BITS impetus sinks Muddies

BITS have earned bragging rights locally after defeating neighbour Mudcrabs in the match at Tannum Sands on Saturday.

Neither team has been consistent this year and both went into the contest needing points on the Trend Interiors Carpet & Tile Court premiership ladder if they are to keep in touch with the top four.

On the day it was BITS that achieved that goal, dominating Gladstone in the first half with five goals in each of those quarters to lead at the main break by 50 points.

In the second spell BITS took the foot off the pedal slightly, but playing catch-up, the Mudcrabs were unable to get back into the contest, going down by 13.14.92 to 8.14.62.

For BITS, six goals from John Beirouti was a highlight and showed that while this is a season where the club is trying to rebuild, it can still prove a formidable opponent on the day.

The win by BITS keeps the side level on the ladder with both Gladstone and Panthers as the teams head into the last of three rounds of matches when the competition resumes a week on Saturday.

For the Mudcrabs, the number of behinds they scored will be of concern. If a few of those had been turned into majors there is every possibility the Mudcrabs could have given BITS a fright.
