Birthday boy fined for causing trouble at The Reef

VERBALLY abusing a woman and trying to fight passers-by is certainly an interesting way to ring in your 21st.

For Malcom Patrick Congoo, that's exactly how he celebrated his birthday, as Gladstone Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday.

Congoo pleaded guilty in writing to one count of public nuisance, after the incident at about 2am on April 13.

Police had observed Congoo trying to fight people outside The Reef Hotel, and he was eventually arrested after continuing to verbally abuse a female companion.

Magistrate Russell Warfield said Congoo had apologised for his actions in the written plea, explaining he was highly intoxicated on the night because it was his 21st birthday.

Mag Warfield did not record a conviction, but fined Congoo $700.

He was also banned him from entering The Reef Hotel, Central Lane Hotel and MIe Place for six months.
