Birds caught battling the elements
‘ISLAND SPIRITS’ is a series of paintings that captures the wild weather and the movement of birds across the sky.
Hometown artist Margaret Worthington will be launching her exhibition at Gecko Valley Winery yesterday.
This exhibition illustrates a visit to one of the coral cays off Central Queensland.
“I have drawn on my knowledge of the local flora and fauna from Heron Island, Curtis Island and many other local islands to illustrate these series of paintings for my ‘Island Spirits’ exhibition,” Ms Worthington said.
“I wanted to convey some of the wonders of the birds, the coral cays and the privelege I feel in being able to watch and share their uniqueness.
“The wild weather made it all the more dramatic.”
The birds in the exhibition include white-capped noddies, sooty oyster catchers, pied oyster catchers, brown boobies, crested and caspian terns, common noddies and common terns.
Ms Worthington is an acclaimed professional artist of abstract realist school based in Calliope for many years.
Gecko Valley is her home gallery.
The gallery opens Wednesday to Friday 11am to 3pm and 11am to 4pm on weekends.
