Big stars Darius Boyd and Jamie Soward look set to return

NRL rivals Brisbane and Penrith are on high alert for early injury comebacks by match winners Darius Boyd and Jamie Soward in tomorrow night's clash at Suncorp Stadium.

There's been a real buzz about the possibility Boyd could make his first appearance of the season after fighting his way back from a ruptured Achilles suffered during the pre-season.

Likewise, there is mail coming out of the foot of the mountains that Soward is close to a return after undergoing emergency back surgery after round two.

Both stars have been running well and training and the addition of either would be a huge boost for their sides.

Broncos centre Jack Reed said if Soward played it would be massive lift for the Panthers.

"They're a top-four side and it's a good measure for us at this stage of the season," he said of the clash..

Penrith is beginning to get some quality players back from injury and Soward's return would be welcomed against the ladder-leading Broncos which has won six of its past seven games.

Neither player was named in the official team lists on Tuesday but Boyd, in particular, looks ready to go.

"He's been training and running exceptionally well," Reed said.

"There's a great vibe around the club with the players and the fans and we've got to knuckle down through this Origin period and make sure we stay up high on the ladder till we get those players back.

"We'd love to have our big-name stars every week but we've got some good young talent here ready to step up to the mark, put on the jersey and show us what they've got."
