Big-name speakers here for industry conference

THE GEA Major Industry Conference is underway in Gladstone today, featuring key speakers from major resource companies and global firms.

The two-day event organised by Gladstone Engineering Alliance is being held at Gladstone Entertainment Centre.

Speakers include Queensland Resources Council chief executive Michael Roche, Westpac's Bill Evans, Cockatoo Coal managing director Andrew Lawson and Boulder Steel project director Ross Johnson.

This year's event is sponsored by MIPEC, a Gladstone-owned company that is celebrating 10 years of operation.

MIPEC business development manager Chris Dunphy said the conference provided the opportunity to step away from a normal day's activities, and to gain a better understanding of future projects and technology advancements in industry.

"The relaxed atmosphere and the depth of the event stakeholders certainly provide an opportunity to network with business leaders," he said.

Also speaking at the event is Gladstone Regional Council contracts and facilities manager Mark Larney, Gladstone Ports Corporation planning and development general manager Gary Carter, Bandanna Energy managing director Michael Gray and Aurizon project director Simon Thomas.

A gala presentation night will be held on Thursday as part of the event.
