Big crowd to have a ball while raising funds

A SEA of glitz and glamour, former rugby league great Shane Webcke, mystery entertainers and a room full of generous people raising money for local charities.

That's the vision for the Santos GLNG Mayor's Ball on Saturday, May 30.

The Gladstone Regional Council is again proud to support the gala dinner, now in its third year, which has raised more than $190,000 for local charities to date.

The event will move to a new venue this year at the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre, giving organisers the capacity to host 500 guests.

This year the beneficiaries will be: MAD Camps (Young People Making a Difference); Variety Queensland; CWA Young Leaders and Zonta.

Gladstone Region Acting Mayor Matt Burnett said it was an honour to be part of such a generous community and that he was pleased to see the proceeds this year going to charities working with children, youth and women in our region.

"I am certain this year's event will again showcase that giving spirit," Cr Burnett said.

"With a bigger venue and guest capacity, we hope that translates into even more money being raised."
