Me and My Ride: 1976 HX Holden

ADAM Shiberras still owns his first car, one not many people his age would have chosen to start out on the road.

But just under 10 years later, Shiberras still loves the car as much as he did when he bought it at 18.

So much so, he has a name for the 1976 HX Holden.

He calls it Bessie.

"We went past it and I told Dad I want to have a look," he said.

"I have had it ever since."

A lot has changed with Bessie in all Shiberras' time sharing memories with her.

New wheels, a new dash and the interior carpet are just a few improvements.

But he has steered clear of making alterations on the colour.

"I was going to change the colour earlier on," he admitted.

"I have grown into it over time."

The big change though is Shiberras getting a daily drive, which Bessie was for seven years after he bought her.

Now he gets her out on the weekend to give her a clean and enjoy a run, sometimes entering her in shows in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Yeppoon and Emu Park.

Whether she is his show car or daily drive, Bessie is not going to be sold easily.

"I will keep her forever. I would have to be forced into selling it," he said.
