Tommy Berry has to win Magic Millions from the outside
RACING: A drama-free barrier draw has seen little change to betting for the $2 million Magic Millions (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday with Wicked Intent and Frequendly disputing favouritism at $6.
Usually the all-important draw for gates can cause chaos for fancied runners but this year well-backed chances Wicked Intent (barrier 5), Frequendly (4), Singles Gaze (6) and Claudia Jean (1) all drew well.
Gerard Ryan's big hope Perignon, to be ridden by Brenton Avdulla, faired all right in barrier 11, given he races back off the pace.
The hard-luck story was the Gai Waterhouse-trained Carriages, to be ridden by Sydney hoop Tommy Berry, which drew the outside gate.
Berry has declared a win in the Magic Millions would be a perfect tribute to his twin brother Nathan, who died last year from the rare Norse Syndrome.
Nathan won the Millions in 2011 on Karuta Queen and Driefontein in 2012.
