West Gladstone man in court over alleged Benaraby stabbing

CONLAN James 'CJ' Kapay, 27, the West Gladstone man charged with stabbing Dean Robertson in Benaraby last December, has made a brief appearance before Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Kapay, being held in custody, is charged with the unlawful wounding of Mr Robertson, 30, at the Boyne River Tourist Park on December 4; and making a threat to cause serious harm.

His mother and another woman were in the public gallery to support him when he went before magistrate Mark Morrow.

Kapay appeared in the dock with his left arm in a purple plaster. Lawyer Cassandra Ditchfield said Kapay's case would be subject to a hand up committal to go before the District Court.

Ms Ditchfield said he was due to have a psychiatric assessment later this month, with a report to go to the Mental Health Court for assessment.

Back in December, Mr Morrow made an order for Kapay to be assessed by a mental health professional. His case was adjourned to late May.
