Benaraby buggy action

MOTORSPORT lovers will have the chance to head down to the Benaraby Motorsport Complex and see some great buggy-racing action. It's the first round of the Gladstone Stadium Short Course Offroad Racing Series.

VIDEO: Look at some action!

One of the many drivers who'll compete against their own times in the points-based race is Mitch Cross.

"It will be my first time at the short course and I am hoping for fun and to just finish the race in one piece," Cross said.

"I got into Aus Four Racing about three years ago."

And now that he competes on a regular level, Cross is hoping to make the famous Finke race in Alice Springs in June.

"We compete at least two or three times a month and have mainly done Landcruiser Park in Jimna, Superior Short Course and the Mackay Central Coast B and B," he said.

Preparation of the car is essential and they have to be adjusted for each different track.

"The biggest part is to adjust your buggy to each different track, and after the first lap you get an idea of what needs to be done," he added.

One of those things is not to land on the front wheels after completing a jump.

Cross said a quick adjustment of the suspension, had his Side by Side Pro buggy landing perfectly on the back wheels.

"It's all about conserving the car and not wrecking it," he said.

Event co-ordinator Brent Taylor said 28 drivers from across north and south of Gladstone would feature today.

"It's the first of its kind north of Brisbane and we are hoping for a huge crowd," Taylor said.
