Ben in awe of Billy

FOR a man that won this year's Dally M medal, Bulldogs fullback Ben Barba speaks with an amazing amount of modesty.

The battle between him and Storm custodian Billy Slater is sure to be one of the highlights of this Sunday's grand final at ANZ Stadium, with Barba genuinely in awe of Slater's talent.

"Some days you're just caught there gazing, watching Billy because he's such a great player," Barba said. "I can't do that this week or I'm pretty sure he'll be scoring a few tries."

Slater was at his breathtaking best against Manly in Friday night's preliminary final, scoring a long-rang try and running for 200m.

Barba has scored 22 tries this season, captivating so many supporters.

The little magician from Mackay didn't stop with his modest words, adding he would give up his Dally M award for the NRL winners' trophy.

But then Barba's competitive streak kicked in, saying despite his diminutive size, no Melbourne player will scare him.

"I'm not that big a guy, but I've played against these guys all year. Not much will change," he said
