Ben and Andy find reno perfection on The Block

GEELONG school teachers Ben and Andy have come a long way in the past few weeks on The Block.

The mates and reno novices earned a perfect score from the reality show's judges tonight after delivering not only a guest bedroom and wardrobe but also an extra guest bathroom.

Just three weeks ago they delivered their master en-suite, which they styled with cheap razors and body wash.

Their decision to turn the walk-in robe in their second guest bedroom into another bathroom means their apartment will be the only one out of the five that will have four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

"How good is it when the rookies come good?" judge Neale Whitaker said.

"They're listening, they're raising their game and it's really clever.

"It's like they've grasped a really solid understanding of what they want to do... I'm beginning to think these boys have a grand plan."

Queenslanders Will and Karlie finished second with thanks to their clever, custom bedhead which acted as a room divider to separate their bed from a built-in wardrobe.

The judges loved their black and gold bedhead but said Karlie's styling was distracting.

"I just feel there's such a potential drama in this room that comes from the incredible height of the ceilings," Whitaker said.

"What's clouding it for me is all these cushions, that patterned rug and those side tables.

"I've got this overwhelming urge to throw everything off the bed so I can focus on that (bedhead)."

Last week's winners Dan and Carleen finished third thanks to their bold velvet teal bedhead.

"I love the way they've used the shades of dark grey. It adds a nice contemporary touch because that (the bedhead) could have gone so wrong," Whitaker said.

"But I don't think they're delivering the bedrooms to the same standard of the bathrooms. The walk-in wardrobe is so unspecial; there's no sense of luxury or glamour at all."

Julia and Sasha were seeing red after receiving confusing feedback from the judges.

They loved the couple's bold metallic four-poster bed but once again called Julia's styling soulless.

"In a previous season of The Block this could be a winning room but the standard has changed," Whitaker said.

"This is not a room I'm going to remember. I'm going to closet hat door and forget this room.

"I think Julia is a stylist who's being out-styled by the other couples."

Newcastle parents Kim and Chris finished last after deciding to go back to their original design style after flip flopping over the past few weeks trying to please the judges.

"It feels like they have found a style that they're comfortable with, which is a result," Whitaker said.

"That's what we begged them to do last week."

But Whitaker and Shaynna Blaze felt their room lacked personality.

"It just feels too placed and too perfect," Blaze said. "They need to put themselves into it too."

Darren Palmer defended the couple's style as highly saleable.

"Nobody is going to walk in here going 'there's nothing I can do with this'," he said.

"They've really thought about future-proofing the apartment as well."

This upcoming week the teams will renovate their living and dining rooms.
