Bechtel son takes place as company president
BRENDAN Bechtel has been named president and chief operating officer of Bechtel Group, the fifth generation of the Bechtel family to become president.
Bechtel, a worldwide engineering, construction, and project management company, is constructing the three LNG plants at Curtis Island in Gladstone.
Mr Bechtel, son of board chairman Riley Bechtel, will also become a member of the board of directors, and will report to Bill Dudley, the company's chief executive officer.
He is a former head of the company's gas operations, and has spent time in Gladstone working on the QCLNG project.
Mr Dudley said Mr Bechtel's talent and knowledge of the industry made him the right person to help lead the company.
Mr Bechtel most recently served as president of the company's oil, gas and chemicals unit.
He first began working for the company during summer breaks in high school.
After joining the company full-time, he took on roles of increasing responsibility, including assignments around the world in field construction and project management.
In addition, he is credited with being the principal architect of the Bechtel Leadership Model, which helps guide the company's leadership behavior.
Executive vice president Jack Futcher will take over as president of the oil, gas and chemicals business.
