Bechtel wins Employer of the Year at state training awards

BECHTEL scooped the pool at the Queensland Training Awards in Brisbane on Friday night, claiming the Employer of the Year title.

The company's continued commitment to training, which included investing more than $2.3 million in training between July 2011 and January 2013, was recognised at the awards night held at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

It marked a successful year for the company, after it secured the Central Queensland Employer of the Year gong in July for its education and training to the 10,000 strong workforce on Curtis Island.

Bechtel Gladstone general manager Kevin Berg said the award was justification of the hard work being done by the Bechtel Gladstone training staff.

"This award recognises not only our training teams but the men and women on our projects who are taking on the challenge of learning new skills," he said.

"I'm proud that we are able to provide training and new career opportunities to our employees as we continue to upskill Queensland's construction workforce."

As a result, Bechtel has progressed on to the Australian Training Awards to be held in Perth in November.
