Bechtel GM takes out management excellence award

THE cream of Queensland business enterprise rose to the top on Friday night when the AIM 2012 Management Excellence Award winners were announced at a gala function in Brisbane.

Evidence that Gladstone is in the big league of the business world came when the manager of the region's biggest ever project, Bechtel general manager Kevin Berg, was named 2012 Professional Manager of the Year.

Mr Berg came to Gladstone in 2011 to take on a new role of cross-management for Bechtel's projects in the region, including the three multi-billion dollar LNG projects for separate clients on Curtis Island.

After 30 years with Bechtel, Mr Berg has said this was the most exciting project he had seen.

AIM received almost 910 nominations across five categories this year.

More than 400 people attended the event.
