Beauties ready for rodeo

COMPETITORS from all over Australia are converging on Ipswich for the 2010 National Rodeo Finals, but no one has travelled as many kilometres as Britteny Foster.

The 22-year-old current Miss Rodeo Canada flew into Australia yesterday morning and is looking forward to seeing our best cowboys and cowgirls in action at the event.

Ms Foster met up with Miss Rodeo Queen of Australia Tayla-Maree Johnston at the Briggs Road Sporting Complex, where the finals are being hosted tonight and tomorrow night.

Hailing from Peace River in Northern Alberta, Ms Foster said nothing could beat the excitement of a rodeo.

“I’ve always grown up around rodeos; they have been a huge part of my life. I can’t wait to see my first rodeo in Australia,” she said.

“I’ve had a whirlwind of a year after becoming Miss Rodeo Canada in November last year. Coming to Australia to represent Canada is a great way to finish the best year of my life.”

Joining the Canadian rodeo queen is her Australian equivalent Ms Johnston, who also arrived in Ipswich yesterday after a long trek from Gundagai, NSW.

The 19-year-old barrel racer competed in Ipswich at last year’s event and is looking forward to getting in the saddle again.

“My horse is back in Gundagai, but I’ll be borrowing another ride for my event. I hope it is as fun as it was last year,” she said.

The 2010 National Rodeo Finals feature a full range of events and entertainment.
