ONE Central Queenslander is thanking his lucky stars his mother has a big heart after a practical joke almost saw him disowned.

Hot FM's Paul 'Browny' Brown decided to announce on radio this morning that he was leaving Australia for America.

Many listeners and his mother fell for the joke, thinking the bearded shock jock was leaving the region permanently.

Listen here:

Browny, who has been posting in his private social media accounts for months, is about to embark on a trip of a lifetime, leaving Thursday for USA and returning early next month.

"We were looking for a way to tie it (April Fools Day) in with my holiday to the USA," Browny told The Bulletin.

"On the show we haven't mentioned what I'll be doing over there so EJ and I thought it would be the perfect excuse to pull out the prank.

"We announced that my holiday to the US was actually because I've been offered a job to work for a heavy metal radio station called 100.4 Fuelz FM based in LA and I wouldn't be coming back.

"We weren't sure if anyone from CQ would catch on or believe it but I knew Mum would and that's why we called her...

"I was mortified however when she started crying."

Whoops.

And the buck doesn't stop there.

The radio hosts also failed to tell any of their co-workers what they were up to and had to field calls from listeners who were not happy about how Browny 'broke the news' to his mother.
