Don't panic buy, be prepared instead

GLADSTONE is renowned for panic-buying in stormy weather, so the local council is pleading with residents to prepare all aspects of their home for the upcoming season.

At minimum, four cyclones of varying intensities are expected to form off the Queensland coast during the summer months.

The impact they have will largely be determined by levels of preparation.

A storm kit including torch, batteries, radio, candles and three days of food and water supplies should be stored in every Queensland household.

An emergency plan for evacuation as well as basic home maintenance such as secure roofing, clearing of debris and trimming trees is integral during storm season.

Finally, keeping informed through-up-to date warning systems will best arm your household against threats.
