Feast of footy as 47th Battalion carnival returns

THE 47th Battalion rugby league carnival returns to Gladstone this weekend, with three local sides flying the flag.

The Gladstone Raiders are represented by a men's side and an under-20 team, while the region is represented by the Capricornia Capras women's side.

All three teams are set to play three matches across the weekend, with the possibility for the men to take part in the final if they top their group.

The men are in a group with Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast and North Wide Bay, while Rockhampton, the Central Highlands, Bundaberg and South West Country will contest the other group.

Four teams will take part in both the women's and under-20 competitions.

Kicking off at 10.30am on Saturday and 9.30am on Sunday, the 47th Battalion carnival will have three fields in use simultaneously at the Marley Brown Oval complex.

The announcement of Central Division men's and women's teams will take place after the carnival concludes, scheduled for 3.20pm on Sunday.
