SOCCER: Clinton FC celebrated a long season across all divisions with its end-of-season awards night last weekend.

More than 30 awards were presented at the awards with the top trophy, Player of the Year won by CQ Premier League striker Dominic Barra.

Barra scored 11 goals during the season and set up countless others, but Clinton FC assistant coach Dan Horton said that wasn't the determining factor for his win.

"His goals weren't really the factor in him getting the trophy - his work rate for every game was unmatched by anyone on our team and the competition,” Horton said.

"We pride ourselves on defence and that's probably why so many of our award winners were defenders.

"It all started with him up the front shutting players down and his work rate coming back if he'd lose the ball.

"Dom won our Man Of The Match award the most times this year. He is one of the most dynamic players we've ever coached.

"He has it all - lightning speed, a lethal shot, constant work rate but most importantly he has heart and gave his all every game.”

Winger Mitch Innocend won the Players' Player Award, edging out Matt Varnes and Liam Stephen for the gong.

The club also had a new trophy awarded on the night for Defender of the Year, which was taken out by young gun Josh Noonan.

"He completely dominated (Capricorn Coast striker) Jarod Lancaster and (Frenchville striker) Jordan Miller in the last two games that he played both of them,” Horton said.

"His last quarter of the year was amazing so he deserved our (CQ Premier League) Best and Fairest and Defender of the Year awards.”

Horton also complimented defender Nick Ellacott and Innocend.

"Nick our sweeper was our most consistent performer this season I don't think he had a poor game,” he said.

"He really took control of our defence all year and even popped up with a few goals.

"Mitch (Innocend) is the ultimate competitor and arguably one of the best players in the competition.

"He had another stand out year winning our highest goal scorer and was voted Clinton Players' Player of the year which is voted by every senior player in the club.”
