Awoonga Dam tournament the place to be for barra chasers

BARRA fishing is all about reaching that magic metre mark.

For all those fishing enthusiasts, or even those looking for a fun family expedition, the ABBT Barra and Basstasstic Bush Bash Boynedale Camp Barra Tournament will be running at Awoonga Dam this weekend.

The event kicked off at 6pm last night and will run until midday tomorrow, when there will be a presentation.

Camping is available.

Basstasstic tournament chief executive officer Russel Nowlands said with the temperatures coming back down, the barra were coming up higher in the water, which made them easier to catch.

"It will be a lovely fishing weekend. I do believe the fish will come on the bite."

The tournament costs $70 for seniors, $30 for juniors, and family discounts are available.
