Barbarians ready for biggest-ever carnival

THE biggest carnival the Capricornia Barbarians have ever held will hit Boyne Island Oval next Sunday, July 5.

Usually three teams come to the annual carnival, but this time around the Aussie Rules side has been able to attract four.

Two local teams, the Capricornia side and the Norval Barbarians, will take on a Townsville team and the Bayside Bombers from Brisbane.

Veteran player Rod Spice said the matches will be the highest quality the competition has ever seen.

"Bayside will be the ones to watch, they play every second week and are well run," he said.

That does not mean the two Barbarians teams will be without a chance.

The format will see two matches played and the winner of each play in a final, a consolation final also to be played.

The Barbarians have 30 players between them at the moment, but would like 40 to have two full teams.

In preparation, Spice and his mates are running training at Boyne Island Oval tonight at 6pm, as well as an extra on Sunday.

"We will have an extra run this Sunday morning at 10.30am and the games will start at 10.30 on Sunday, July 5," he said.
