Bar banger gets bowls ban

A CALLIOPE lad with a few boozy drinks under his belt won't be gracing a bar stool at Calliope Bowls Club any time soon after his bar temper tantrum.

Kurt Nicholas got a wee bit aggressive and banged his fist down on the club bar a few times when staff barred from buying any more alcohol.

Nicholas also began behaving badly toward other patrons and staff, swearing abuse.

His night out earned him a visit from police and he is now banned from the bowls club.

Appearing before Gladstone Magistrates Court, Nicholas, 37, pleaded guilty to drunk and disorderly behaviour in licensed premises at Calliope on March 24.

Police prosecutor Gavin Reece said Nichols began swearing loudly at staff and patrons then punched his fist down on the bar a number of times, and yelling out.

He was visibly aggressive toward another patron and while leaving the club he hit his arm on his parked car.

Police sought a banning order.

In his defence Nichols said he had been involved in an argument at the bowls club that night.

Magistrate Mark Morrow fined Nichols $750 and banned him from Calliope Bowls Club until December 19, telling Nichols that he could not go and behave like that as the cub would not have him back.
