Bank staff choose animal charity

BOTH Bank of Queensland Gladstone branches are getting behind their community with their "Loving our locals" campaign, which provides $500 to a local community organisation every month.

The first recipient is RSPCA Gladstone.

Gladstone's BOQ owner-managers Rachel and Andrew Bauer said that even outside their branches' banking services, they believed in making a positive difference to their community.

"We're all part of the Gladstone community, so when an organisation that is making the local community better benefits - we all benefit," Rachel said.

"The community organisation is selected by staff members and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience for everyone at the branch," she said.

"There's definitely a sense of satisfaction and purpose that comes from being part of a bigger whole, and seeing the real difference we're making to the Gladstone community."

RSPCA Gladstone president Judy Whicker said the funds were a valued contribution.

"BOQ Gladstone is very supportive of us and we're very excited to be the first recipients in the 'Loving our locals' campaign," Judy said.

"The $500 will go towards new kennels, bedding and food."

Both BOQ branches in Gladstone will also be taking cat and dog food donations throughout September and October.

Some staff members will also be volunteering at the RSPCA adoption days.

The Loving our Locals campaign runs until September next year.

New and existing BOQ customers can get in on the action by nominating a local community organisation when they open a new account.
