‘Bag lady’ cracks 4000 but won’t stop there
MELINDA Huther is officially the "Bag Lady" of Gladstone.
The 23-year-old Best and Less employee has sold a whopping 4336 environmentally friendly bags this year - and it's only June.
Over the past two years she's sold 7529, including more than 3000 in 2014.
Melinda has made it her duty to sell as many of the $1 bags as she can.
"My goal every day is to sell 50," she said.
"I have already sold 34 today."
Melinda, who has been working at the Stockland Gladstone store since she was 15, put her efforts down to simply being friendly.
"My tips to selling the bags are puppy eyes, be really nice, smile and tell the customer about my goal," she said.
Melinda suffered a life-threatening brain tumour when she turned 15 but it hasn't stopped her.
"I can't do as much as the other staff members so this is giving my part to the store," she said.
