Plans to build community garden in three weeks
CREATIVE Gladstone's Bob Watson believes he can build a community garden and outdoor workshop in just three weeks.
"It seems crazy, but we have an amazing team of dedicated people who have put up their hands to help out," said the maintenance man ager.
"The plan is to completely renovate the backyard before the open day and then celebrate all the hard work."
Mr Watson welcomed the crowd of volunteers who turned up to the old kindergarten, on the corner of Auckland and William Sts on Saturday morning, with a big smile and a sausage sizzle.
"The working bee volunteers picked up shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows and threw their hearts into it," he said.
"It's amazing to see how much Gladstone is getting behind us and supporting the arts."
Nicole Bourgeois was one of the volunteers who cleaned up the garden, dug up the old sandpit and collected pine sleepers to recycle into new outdoor work tables.
She said Creative Gladstone was one of the best artistic community spaces she had seen.
"I've lived in a lot of places, and the artwork and workshops that you can experience in Gladstone are some of the best," she said.
"Even if you don't think you are creative you can come here, be inspired and enjoy the art."
Mr Watson said everyone was invited to attend the open day on Saturday, December 13, when doors will open at 9am.
"There will be stalls, great food, a sausage sizzle and plenty of small beautiful artworks for sale that are perfect Christmas gifts," he said.
