Backpacker didn't want to do Brisbane River jump: boss

A MISSING British backpacker told his former boss he didn't want to jump into the Brisbane River just a week before he was last seen diving from the William Jolly Bridge, probably to his death.

Dale Rehr, 30, started work earlier this month with IT and security company Forum Group and spent last week with its National Security Manager, Jake Meredith.

Mr Meredith said the globetrotting Brit had taken video of three friends - believed to be those who "egged him on" to jump on Sunday night - jumping from a bridge into the river two weeks ago.

"He mentioned that he didn't want to do it that time, back two weeks ago," he said.

"And he was the only one who didn't do it because he stayed there and filmed it because he said, 'I don't want to get in any trouble while I'm here in Australia'.
