The Bachelor: Alex and Richie can finally see each other
AFTER declaring their love for one another, The Bachelor winner Alex Nation and Richie Strahan have hardly seen each other.
The couple has had to sacrifice face-to-face time for the past three and a half months as Channel 10 and the reality dating show's production company Warner Bros ramped up security to avoid a repeat of last year's debacle when The Bachelor's sister show The Bachelorette's finale was spoiled for fans.
Ms Nation revealed to APN she has only met up with Strahan a few times since filming the finale in Bali in June.
Despite speculation yesterday that their lack of contact implied she wasn't the winner, Alex said it was a precaution so that she and Richie couldn't be photographed together.
"When it came to the secret rendezvous it was always very exciting, but we haven't seen each other that much," she said.
"It's a precautionary thing. There has been so much hype around the show that Ten and Warner Bros have been taking extra measures.
"Once it (filming) was all done and dusted all we wanted to do was be around each other. It has been tough but we (speak on) Facetime all the time, which is lovely. I'm definitely looking forward to being out there and open."
Strahan also still hasn't met Ms Nation's five-year-old son Elijah, who was a major factor in his final decision between Ms Nation and runner-up Nikki Gogan.
"We're going to wait a little while before he meets the little man; we want to settle in after this is all done," she said.
"He hasn't even seen Elijah on Facetime yet. Because Elijah's five there was also the worry he would have run back to school and been like 'mum's boyfriend Richie'."
Perth-based Strahan, who works as a rope access technician, will move to Melbourne to pursue his relationship with Ms Nation.
"He is going to relocate to Melbourne, but we're not in any rush to do that," she said.
"We're not going to rush into any big, grand plans.
"I'm excited to just go down the street and grab a coffee with him, hold his hand and go for a drive together."
Despite getting her happily ever after, Ms Nation said she wouldn't recommend the dating to show to everyone.
"I had an amazing experience but you have to be strong within yourself," she said.
"It's not only the show and filming that you have to be prepared for. It's everything that comes afterwards like the backlash from social media. You put yourself out there to be scrutinised by the nation, so you have to have a thick skin. I can't say just go for it because it takes a certain type of person."
