Awards recognise achievements of inspiring women
GLADSTONE Women's Health Centre has launched its inaugural Inspiring Women's Award, aimed at women who have faced adversity in their life and have continued to motivate, support, inspire and advocate for other women within the Gladstone region.
The centre says these unsung heroes represent women who have faced significant setbacks, challenges or obstacles in life and deserve to be recognised for their continued efforts for empowering women.
Nominations are now open.
There are three categories for people to self-nominate or nominate someone in the community:
- Inspiring Young Woman aged 15-25
- Inspiring Woman of the Year
- Inspiring Heroic Woman of the Year
The heroic woman award is a special category that recognises the phenomenal achievements of a particular woman who, for various personal reasons, is unable to identify herself due to safety or legal reasons.
These reasons may include legalities surrounding domestic violence, sexual assault or cultural sensitives.
The awards will be presented on Friday, June 26 at a breakfast at Yaralla Sports Club.
The breakfast will celebrate with the women whose inspiring stories will be taking centre stage.
The winners will be announced by state Communities, Women and Youth Minister Shannon Fentiman, Mayor Gail Sellers and former Gladstone MP Liz Cunningham.
Tickets cost $45.
