Awards recognise champions

The Spinal Injuries Association has included Gladstone in its Community Champions awards following the success of previous years.

Spinal Injuries Association members, the local Council, Chambers of Commerce and other relevant organisations and people who foster inclusive communities are encouraged to take part.

The awards have six categories:

• Best Sporting Facility
• Best Local Business/Community Service Provider
• Best Government Department or Agency
• Best Recreation/Leisure/Entertainment Venue or Precinct
• Best Tourism or Accommodation Provider
• Best Individual

Spinal Injuries Association Chief Executive Officer Bruce Milligan encouraged locals to "name their champions".

"As an organisation dedicated to assisting our members to live in an equitable, inclusive and integrated community, we're extremely pleased when local businesses and organisations are equally as dedicated to providing an inclusive service," Bruce said.

"We hope local businesses are inspired to take part in this year's awards, which recognise the role organisations and individuals are playing in maximising the social and economic performance of Gladstone as a progressive region."

Nomination forms for the 2012 Inclusive Community Champions are available by emailing or by phoning the Spinal Injuries Association on (07) 3391 2044.

With more than 2,000 members and clients throughout Queensland, the Spinal Injuries Association has been supporting and empowering people since 1960.
