Kyrgios pays hefty price for fan outburst

NICK Kyrgios has been fined $3765 for unsportsmanlike conduct in the fall-out to his comfortable opening-round Australian Open victory.

 

The Aussie was among nine players fined a total $25,000 for indiscretions in qualifying and the main draw's first phase.

 

Kyrgios was heard telling a rowdy spectator to "shut the f... up" during a 6-1 6-2 6-4 rout of Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva.

 

Croat Borna Coric tops the fines bulletin with a $6274 penalty for racquet abuse during his defeat to Queenslander John Millman.

 

Argentina's Diego Schwartzman and Romanian Marius Copil were fined $2500 each for the same offence.

 

Kazakh Alexander Bublik was hit with two $1254 fines for audible obscenities during qualifying.

American Stefan Kozlov was penalised the same amount for an audible obscenity in first-round qualifying.

 

​Former finalist Dominika Cibulkova was hit with a $3130 fine for receiving illegal coaching.

 

Czech Barbora Strycova copped a $2500 fine for racquet and equipment abuse while Danka Kovinic was penalised $630 for time violations.

 

Officials are continuing to adjudicate CoCo Vandeweghe's two code of conduct violations from her troubled first-round defeat.

 

The volatile American was accused of mouthing obscenities in the direction opponent Timea Babos.

 

Officials will continue to review footage of the relevant incidents.

On Wednesday Kyrgios  won his second round match against Viktor Troicki 7-5 6-4 7-6(2).
