Aussies lose to old foe

AUSTRALIA has been demoted to the silver medal by the world record breaking Great British team in the team pursuit at the velodrome.

The Australian team - consisting of Jack Bobridge, Glenn O'Shea, Rohan Dennis and Michael Hepburn - gave away a slender lead at the start and could never get it back from the home favourite.

The British team, breaking its own world record with a time of 3:51.659, added another gold to the trophy cabinet and continues its domination of world cycling.

New Zealand finished in the bronze medal position after defeating Russia.
