Aussies enjoying Brazilian waters despite rubbish
Australian sailors have enjoyed some promising results in an Olympic Test regatta being held in waters off Rio de Janeiro.
London Games gold medallist Mat Belcher and new partner Will Ryan (pictured) finished first and third in their two races on day two to set up a handy lead in the 470 class, and Tom Burton was also in front in the Laser class.
The new pairing of Darren Bundock and Nina Curtis were third in the Nacra 17 class, which will debut in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
London gold medallists Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen (AUS) were also third in the 49er class after two mid-fleet finishes on day two.
And the team of Eliza Solly and Olivia Price - who combined with Curtis and Lucinda Whitty to take silver in the match race class in London - were third in the new women's 49erFX.
Sailors have complained about the smelly water and having to navigate pollution and garbage, including dead animals and furniture.
