EMERGENCY services around the world are now rushing to choreograph increasingly complex and impressive dance numbers as a trend started by the New Zealand authorities continues to bounce across the globe.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service raised temperatures after their dance moves hit the internet on Friday.

Australian Federal Police released their effort on Friday, featuring some classic dance moves by an officer in a bomb detection suit.

Scotland Police have gotten in on the action, as have the NYPD.

The AFP called out their counterparts in North America -- the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and Canada's Mounted Police.

The AFP also threw down the gauntlet to its colleagues here, inviting police forces from Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory to the party.

The QPS are known for their social media skills, but will that bring them glory in a global dance battle?

They have some stiff competition, especially now that London's Metro Police have stepped on to the floor.

The Aussies have taken a swipe at New Zealand while accepting the running man challenge.

Forces in New York and Edinburgh have taken up the gauntlet, while police in Australia's Northern Territory posted a morose video lamenting the fact they were left out of the Kiwi challenge to Aussie cops.

Yesterday, Australian Capital Territory police accepted the challenge -- and they said they'd "requested back-up" from Australian Federal Police.

"Check back with us tomorrow, we're just polishing our dancing shoes," ACT police wrote.

While we are waiting, the New York Police Department have joined the fun.

The video was shared on Facebook by the Australian Federal Police, who took a swipe at Kiwi slang.

"Hey NZ Police Recruitment that dance was sweet as bro. However, Australia is a proud nation and we won't be outdone by you Kiwis. So we're teaming up with our ACT Policing colleagues to show you how it's really done. Check back with us tomorrow, it's gonna be choice!"

Meanwhile, NSW Police have released their own version of the dance.
